Reasons For Promotion
I recently posted this on our ODCS forums, however I feel that it should be seen by players of other games, because this should affect their promotion decisions also.
"I was going over the promotion waiting list today, and I was looking at promotion reasons for all of the people on the list. I can't vouch for players of WC3 since I can't play from college, and I can't vouch for D2X, since there isn't any skill involved in that game, but here are some of the reasons currently given for promoting people.
For the promotion of NuGz(OD):
Judge(OD): yup skilled and active CSer gj
BarrySexy(OD): good man and skilled at cs
For the promotion of SnOOthY(OD):
maddius(OD): Active and skilled on ODCS Counter-Strike server.
I've seen voting reasons like this in the past... but I mean, be honest. Sure, there's a lot of people who have skill, and I'm not saying that these two don't, but by what measure are you grading 'skill?' If we consider skill to be a 1:1 kill-to-death ratio, then we're in serious trouble here, guys. Honestly, skill doesn't even have to be a reason for promotion. I'd more quickly promote a polite, well-mannered, coherent player over someone who may have skill but is an utter moron otherwise anyday. Just keep that in mind."
Read and respond, and I don't want to see ridiculous responses such as "BUT HAY MANIFOLD LOL I DON'T PLAY CS I PLAY WARCRAFT AND THERE ISN'T A K TO D RATIO, WHATEVER THAT IS, LOL!!!1" Thanks.

Promoting should be based on a few reasons, ie. Activeness, GM, skilled. If your skilled, but not active, you shouldn't get a promotion. This is why we have the voting system, hopefully the ppl whos votes really matter, aren't throwing them away. [Last edited by Brigadier General Omnikilla(OD) on Thu Nov 11, 2004 5:15 PM]
